Title: High level mesoscopic modelling system and its application

Speaker: Dr Jianping Meng (孟剑平), Senior Computational Scientist,Scientific Computing Department, STFC Daresbury laboratory, Warrington WA4 4AD, United Kingdom

Dr Jianping Meng (JM) is a senior computational scientist at the STFC Daresbury Laboratory. He is an Executive Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Hydrodynamics and has been using the lattice Boltzmann method to model traffic flows, rarefied gas flows and shallow water flows. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed international journals (e.g. Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Physical Review E, Journal of Computational Physics, EPL) and conference proceedings and he led the development of the first version of a high-order lattice Boltzmann code using structured meshes at Strathclyde University during 2008-2014. He has been leading the EPSRC project "’HiLeMMS’: High-Level Mesoscale Modelling System” (EP/P022243/1, Software Flagship Project Call), and is a Co-Investigator on the EPSRC project “A holistic framework for hybrid modelling of solid-liquid flows” (EP/N033841/1). JM has been developing the core lattice Boltzmann code in the DL_MESO package within the EPSRC-funded UK Consortium on Mesoscale Engineering Sciences (UKCOMES) using the Oxford parallel Library for structured-mesh solvers.
